Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) is a public (state) university in Famagusta, Northern Cyprus. It started in 1979 as a technical institute and became a university in 1986.
EMU has about 18,000 students, and in 2024 about three in four were international, which makes it one of the most international universities in the world. Teaching is in English for most programmes, and dozens of programmes hold international accreditation.
Pakistani students can apply to Eastern Mediterranean University with the help of Meezab Future Consulting: we check your eligibility, prepare your application and guide you through the Cyprus student visa.
EMU is ranked 611–620 in the QS World University Rankings 2025 and 601–800 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025. In 2024 THE listed it 4th in the world for its share of international students.
Famagusta, Cyprus
EMU's campus is in the coastal city of Famagusta (Gazimağusa) on the east coast of Northern Cyprus, close to the beach and the historic walled old town. Living costs are lower than in most of Europe, and the island has a warm Mediterranean climate.
EMU accepts students from Pakistan for bachelor's, master's and PhD programmes, with intakes in September and February. Admission is usually based on your school or university results, and English proficiency can be shown by a test or EMU's own English exam. EMU also offers tuition-fee discounts for many international students (see our Scholarships page).
Northern Cyprus is recognised as a state only by Turkey, so universities there are accredited by Turkey's Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the local YÖDAK board. Before you choose a course, check how the degree is treated by HEC (and PMDC or PEC for medicine and engineering) if you plan to work in Pakistan. We can help you check this.
